65th Birthday Newspapers
The 65th birthday is a big milestone in people's lives because many people retire when they are 65. At the time
of writing it is 2011 so someone who is celebrating their 65th birthday this year was born in 1946.
Just think of the immense changes that a 65 year old person has lived through from 1946 to 2011.
Imagine some of the newspaper headlines from 1946. The Nuremberg trials were being held. The Nazi war
criminal and founder of the Gestapo, Hermann Goring poisoned himself before he was scheduled to be executed.
In May 1946 a Japanese company called Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering was started with 20 employees. It was
later renamed "Sony".

Harry Truman was President of America. In December 1946 he officially ended hostilities in World War 2 by
delivering Proclamation 2714.
